Distinguished colleague,

I am pleased to inform you that the call for nominations for the TWAS-AAS-Microsoft Award 2009 is now open.  TWAS, in partnership with the
African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and Microsoft Research Ltd, has established the TWAS-AAS-Microsoft Award for Young Scientists for the three-year period 2009-2011. The award aims at recognizing young scientists working and living in Africa whose research in computer science has had, or could have, a positive impact in the developing world.
Scientists who have received their most recent research degree in the past 10 years will be eligible. Nominees can be any nationality, but must have been resident in
Africa
for at least two years prior to their nomination.
Each year, three winners will be selected from different countries on the continent. Each recipient will receive a Euro 7,000 cash award generously contributed by Microsoft Research Ltd, Euro 5,000 of which is earmarked for further research.

We are pleased to invite science academies, national research councils, universities, scientific institutions in developing and developed countries as well as Members of TWAS and AAS to nominate qualified candidates for these Prizes.

Please find herewith attached the nomination form to be used.

The deadline to receive nominations is

.

Counting on your collaboration, I send you my best regards.
