Launching Ceremony of BAS-USDA PALS Program



Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has jointly undertaken an agreement to create an Endowment Fund for supporting research programs in Agriculture and Life Sciences (PALS) to reap the mutual benefits. The goal of the program is to focus on food security, poverty alleviation and promoting broad based equitable and sustainable agriculture.


Bangladesh Academy of Sciences organized the Launching Ceremony of the Projects on Wednesday, 07 July, 2010 at 9:30 am in the Auditorium of the National Museum of Science and Technology (NMST), Agargaon, Dhaka 1207.



Matia Chowdhury, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Agriculture inaugurated the program and distributed the project grant as the Chief Guest for the 1st year of each of the projects to the Principal Investigators. The Academy has provided grant for 20 projects in the field of Crop Science, Fisheries, Forestry, Livestock and Life Sciences of different universities, research institutes and NGOs. Architect Yeafesh Osman, Hon’ble State Minister, Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology, was present as the Special Guest. Dr. Kazi M. Badruddoza, National Emeritus Scientist was also present in the occasion as the Guest of Honour.  Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, President, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences presided over the function. Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary, BAS conducted the program. More than 250 scientists, researchers, teachers, and policy makers from all over the country was present during the occasion.
