Women Scientists for Development

An International Conference on Gender Participation in the Development of Science was held on 14 – 15 November 2009 in the auditorium of the National Museum of Science and Technology, Agargaon, Dhaka. The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences has organized jointly with the Inter Academy Panel (IAP), the Academy for Science of the Developing World (TWAS) and the Network of Academy for Sciences in Islamic Countries (NASIC). The theme of the Conference is Women Scientists for Development. Architect Yeafesh Osman, Hon’ble State Minister for Science and ICT has inaugurated the conference as the Chief Guest. 10 women scientists from India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Uganda, Egypt and 300 women scientists, policy makers, researchers from the country participated and presented paper.

Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali President, BAS presented a keynote speech on Women Scientist in Development of Science. Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary, BAS presented the address of welcome in the inaugural ceremony.

The Chief Guest emphasized in his inaugural speech that without full and equal participation of all the scientists irrespective of gender, the development of science and progress of the country will be for away from the reality.
