For the 1st time in Bangladesh, the Young Scientists Congress -2009 was held in the Auditorium of the National Museum of Science & Technology Agargaon, Dhaka, on Friday, 29 December 2009 organized by Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) in collaboration with Inter Academy Panel on International Issues (IAP) and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) . The theme of the conference was Young Scientists for development.
Architect Yeafesh Osman, Honâ€™ble State Minister for the Ministry of Science and ICT, inaugurated the Congress as the Chief Guest. 10 Young Scientists from China, India, Malaysia and Nepal and about 300 young scientists from the Universities, Research organizations and NGOs of Bangladesh were present in the conference. Besides, distinguished Fellows of the Academy, renowned teachers, researchers and heads of organizations were present during the occasion.
The Chief Guest, Architect Yeafesh Osman, called upon the young scientist to speak freely their minds how the country can utilize the service of the young scientists for the development of the country.
Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, President, of the Academy and the Vice-Chancellor Southeast University, presented the keynote speech on Making of a Scientist and presided over the Inauguration. Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary BAS, welcomed the young scientists and elaborated how the Academy is trying to promote excellence of science education and research for sustainable development of the country.
