Dr. Mizanur Rahman, was a Distinguished Research Professor, Carleton University, Canada was born on September 16, 1932 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He obtained B.Sc. (Mathematics/Physics), 1953, Dhaka University, M.Sc. (Applied Physics), 1954, Dhaka University; BA (Mathematics) 1958, Cambridge Univer-sity; MA (Mathematics) 1963, Cambridge University; Ph.D. (Mathematics) 1965, New Brunswick.

Dr. Mizanur Rahman was Sr. Lecturer (1958 - 1962), Dhaka University; Lecturer (1962 - 1965), University of New Brunswick; Assistant Professor (1965 - 1969), Carleton University; Associate Professor (1969 - 1978), Carleton University; Professor (1978 - 1998), Carleton University Distinguished Research Professor (1998 - to retirement).

His research areas are Non-negative sums and integrals of special functions; Summation and transformation theorem of basic hypergeometric series; Q-orthogonal polynomials of q-Fourier transforms. 

Professor Mizanur Rahman secured Scholarly Achievement Award: 1980, 1983, 1986, 1988; Teaching Award: 1886; Award of Excellence from Bangladesh Publications (Ottawa) in 1996, Best writer Award from Desh Bidesh (by Readers Choice) in 1998; Outstanding Achievement Award from Ottawa Bangladesh Muslim Society in 2000; Award for contribution to Bengali literature in North America  from Bongo Shomyelon in 2002.  

He published more than 100 research papers in the international professional journals; refereed many papers for SIAM J. Math, Anal. Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., J. Math. Phys., Can. J. Math., Rocky M. J. Math., Journal of Approximation Theory, Indian J. Math. and Ganita; reviewed a fairly large number of papers for Mathematical Reviews since 1977; was one of three organizers of the two - week workshops on "q-Series, Special functions and Related Topics", June 12 - 23, 1994 in Toronto under the auspices of the field Institute; was invited for talks in 18 professional meetings held in all over the world; reviewed some grant applications of NSSERC, NSF and Austrian Math Society, authored two books, namely (a) ‘Basic Hypergeometric Series' by G. Gasper and M. Rahman, published by Cambridge University Press in 1990 and (b) “Special functions, q-Series and Related Topics”, Fields Institute Communications AMS (1997), edited by M. E. H. Ismail, D. Masson and M. Rahman; Part of Chapter 6 of "Kinetic Equations of Gases and Plasmas" by Ta-You Wu (Addison-Wesley, 1966), specifically pp. 187 - 193, is based on his Ph.D. thesis.

He was a Member of Editorial Board of the journal: ‘Integral Transforms and Special functions: An International Journal'. 

He expired in Canada in 2015.
