Dr. Abu Reza Md. Towfiqul Islam

Dr. Abu Reza Md. Towfiqul Islam, professor and head of the department, has been working in the Department of Disaster Science and Management, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, Bangladesh. He was an ex-dean of the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences and ex-director of the e-learning center at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur. Dr. Islam received a Ph.D. in Climate Change and Climate Systems from the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, China. He is an associate fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (2020), the apex body for scientists in Bangladesh. He obtained a postdoctoral fellowship (2021-2022) from the Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, and the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia. He has been awarded the 12th international gold medal from Dr. M. A. Wazed Miah Memorial Foundation for his contribution in the environmental science and climate change fields. His major fields of expertise are natural hazards, disaster management, climate change, water quality, flood susceptibility, pollution, human health risk, sediment quality, water resource monitoring, and management. He has written one book, eight book chapters, and over 500 peer-reviewed research papers, with a Google Scholar citation count exceeding 24,500. He has also participated in ten keynote or participating conferences and has received three awards or recognitions. Begum Rokeya University, under the University Grants Commission (UGC) of the government, has funded his research work. of Bangladesh, and King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia. He is a review editor in the Frontiers in Water journal and an associate editor in Earth System and Environment, Springer Nature; Asian Earth Science X, Elsevier; Frontiers in Built Environment and Engineering; and Frontiers in Public Health. He is a guest editor in Frontiers in Climate and Sustainability and has also served as a reviewer for many internationally reputed journals.
