Professor lqbal Kabir Jahid was born at 1 February, 1978 Monirampur village of Jashore, Bangladesh. He graduated from the Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1998. He finished his Master's degree in Microbiology from the same department in 1999. He was awarded with the doctoral degree from the Department of Food Science and Technology Chung-Ang University, South Korea in 2014.
He began his professional career as a senior Research Assistant in icddr'b and promoted to Research Officer in 2004 and Senior Research Officer in 2007. He joined in the University of Dhaka as Research fellow in the Department of Microbiology in the same year before securing a tenure-track faculty position Department of Microbiology, Jashore University of Science and Technology in 2009. He was promoted to Associate Professor in May, 2015 and Professor in December, 2018. He visited as Research Scholar at More House School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia, USA from 2005 to 2006. His professional trainings provided him with the opportunity to learn state of the art techniques like RT-PCR, in-vivo and radioisotope experiments to study pathogenic bacteria and biofilms. During his PhD, he learned the field Emission Electron Microscopy techniques. He visited the ThermoFisher Scientific in India to train in the next generation sequencing and bioinformatics. He is serving as a chairman in his Department since 2014 till date. He has nominated as the Dean of the faculty of Biological Sciences and Technology, JUST in 2016 for 2 years. He is again serving as Dean from 2022 till date. He served as the Provost of Shaheed Masiur Rahman Hall, JUST from 2015 to 2017.
He is also serving as at Associate Director of the Genome Center, JUST since 2018. He was elected as the Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Society of Microbiology and now as a Joint Secretary of the Graduate Microbiologist Society. He was also elected as the president of JUST teachers association in two consecutive years since 2019. He is one the members of Bangladesh Biosafety and Biosecurity Society (BBBS) and Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) Bangladesh Chapter. He was awarded as “Biosafety Hero” 2022. In 2023, he was awarded as associate Fellow from Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS).
As a researcher, he is the top ranked position according to AD index at JUST. Among Bangladesh his position is 121. During the COVID-19 pandemic he was serving with the national Surveillance team. He and his team lead the COVID-19 national surveillance in the Southwest region of Bangladesh covering 4 districts, Jashore, Norail, Magura and Jhinaidha. His fields of expertise mainly cover probiotics, biofilms and viral diagnosis. His team led the Long COVID research in Bangladesh. The paper of COVID is already accepted at BMJ global health a very reputed journal. In Bangladesh, first delta variant has been reported at Genome Center, JUST. He was lead researcher of the research. He is now supervising six PhD students. One of the foreign PhD student got his degree under his supervision. In addition to publish numerous scientific articles in internationally reputed journals he also published several articles to create public awareness on general health, microbiology, COVID-19 infections and child education among Bangladeshi citizens.
