Dr. M. Nazmul Hoque was born on October 24, 1984 in a noble Muslim family in Kandania, Fulbaria, Mymensingh, Bangladesh.
Dr. M. Nazmul Hoque is an Associate Professor, Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur-1706, Bangladesh. He joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Health, BSMRAU in July 01, 2012 and became an Assistant Professor in 2014 and Associate Professor in 2021. Dr. Hoque is currently serving as the Head of the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Health, BSMRAU. Dr. Hoque obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2007 from the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh – 2202, Bangladesh. He completed his graduation (Masters of Science) in Theriogenology in 2009 from the BAU, Bangladesh. Dr. Hoque received his doctoral (PhD) degree from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2021 under BSTFT (Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust) fellowship program. He was as a Visiting Researcher in the Computational Biology Institute (CBI), the George Washington University, Washington DC, USA for three months (February – April, 2018). He served as the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) Young Ambassador of Science to Bangladesh for three years (2020 – 2023) to promote and extend ASM global activities in Bangladesh. He participated a two-week long training program in the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI-EMBL), Cambridge, UK, 18 – 29 October, 2018. He was invited to give Seminar Lecture on his PhD research in the Curlson College of Veterinary Medicine, Oregon State University, USA in July 17 – 19, 2019. He has also participated in the “Genetic Solutions World Tour 2017”, July 13 – 18, 2017, New Delhi, India.
Dr. Hoque is an internationally reputed molecular biologist (genomics and metagenomics) and reproductive biotechnologist (veterinary reproduction). Moved by his interest from veterinary reproduction to metagenomics, microbial genomics, bioinformatics and biotechnology, he is showing excellency in his research skills on biological problems with a large impact on society. He is enthusiastic to join a global bioinformatics group. At this moment, he is working in different genomic and metagenomic research project with the researchers from both home and abroad under national and international collaboration. Dr. Hoque is currently running different projects on microbiome characterization and molecular genetics, which also involves high throughput metagenomics and whole genome sequencing data and stat-of-the-art bioinformatics approaches.
Dr. Hoque was awarded many prizes, awards, and medals for his outstanding academic and research accomplishments in interdisciplinary research in the field of molecular biology and veterinary science. The most prestigious awards received by Dr. Hoque include – University Grants Commission (UGC) Gold Medal Award 2019, the NYAB (National Young Academy of Bangladesh) Outstanding Doctoral Research Award 2021, BSMRAU (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University) Research Award 2022 (amongst top 5 researchers), BSMRAU – Teachers Award (BSMRAU – TA) Awards for 2020 and 2021, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Abstract Awards for 2020 and 2021, European Bioinformatics Institute – European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EBI-EMBL) Travel and Accommodation Award (2018).
Dr. Hoque’s contributions in biological science have been published in many international journals (> 70 peer-reviewed articles, total citation, ~ 1,700, h-index = 20, i10-index 26 as of October 30th, 2023). Dr. Hoque also serves as a Guest Editor of Frontiers in Immunology, Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction and Review Editor of Frontiers in Microbiology journals. Dr. Hoque participated in more than 30 national and international conferences, symposia, and workshops and presented papers, and co-chaired sessions.
