Emeritus Professor Abdul Matin Patwari was born on January 1, 1935 in Sanua, P.S. Monoharganj, Dist. Comilla, Bangladesh. His father is Late Mr. Safar Ali Patwari and mother Late Mrs. Ambia Khatun.

Dr. Patwari passed Matriculation in 1950 (stood First) from Matlabganj High School; Intermediate Science, 1952 (Stood Second) from Rajshahi Govt. College; Bachelor of Science in  Electrical Engineering in 1956 from the erstwhile Ahsanullah  Engineering College (now BUET); M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1961 from the Texas A & M University, USA; M.A. in Mathematics, 1963 from University of California, Berkeley, USA and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1967 from Sheffield University, U.K.

His field of specialization was Electrical Engineering with Electronics and Communication Engineering; Computers (Hardware and Software); Advanced Mathematics; Engineering and Technology Education and Training; Appropriate Technology; Engineering and Science and Technology Planning.

Dr. Patwari served erstwhile Ahsanullah Engineering College (upgraded as University of Engineering & Technology in 1962) as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering from November 1956 to September 1959; as Assistant Professor from March 1963 to November 1968; as Associate Professor from November 1968 to February 1970; as Professor from February 1970 to April 1983; Professor Patwari served as a teacher in Electrical Engineering & Mathematics at the University of California, Berkely, USA from September 1961 to January 1963; as a Commonwealth Staff Fellow and Visiting Professor at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne from October 1973 to August 1974 and was elected Honorary Fellow of the University; as a Full time Visiting Professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering at the California State University, Pomona, USA from September 1980 to March 1982. He was also a Visiting Professor, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA from 2000-2002.

Professor Patwari has more than 80 research papers published in national and international journals and conference proceedings.

He was Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) from 24 April 1983 to 25 April 1987. During this tenure of service at BUET, he was Founder Director of the Computer Centre and held the post of Director from 1978 to 1980 and June 1982 to April 1983. He served as Provost of the Nazrul Islam Hall from May 1969 to October 1973 and as Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Joined Islamic Centre for Technical and Vocational Training and Research (ICTVTR) as its Director General and Chief Executive on May 1, 1987 and worked till retirement in 1999. He was also Chief Executive of IIT (now IUT), OIC, Board Bazar, Gazipur 1987-1999. He was Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Univeristy of Asia Pacific (UAP) 2004-2011; Professor Emeritus, UAP 2012. Member, Governing Body, Science & Technology Museum of Bangladesh, 1977-1978; Member, Council of the   Association of the Commonwealth Universities 1986-1987; Member, the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO, 1983-1987; Member, National Training Council, 1983-1987; Member, Social Science Research Council, 1983-1987; Member, University Grants Commission, Bangladesh, 1983-1985; Member, Board of Governors, Administrative Staff College, 1983-1985; Member, National Computer Committee; Member, Senate, Jahangirnagar University.

He participated as a Member or Head of Delegation in over 70 International conferences, seminars, delegations and meetings held in Austria, Canada, China, Egypt, Gambia, India, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Senegal, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, U.K. and U.S.A. from 1951.

Prof. Abdul Matin is a Fellow, Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB); Founder President and Fellow, Bangladesh Computer Society; Life Fellow, National Council of the Diabetic Associaion of Bangladesh (DAB), and Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. Life Member, Islamia Eye Hospital Society and Chairman, Islamia Eye Hospital for 10 years; he was President of Bangladesh Computer Society 1979 - 1980 and 1990 - 1991; Chairman, Electronics Task Force, Ministry of Education, S & T Division 1985 - 1986. Council Member, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, Member of NCST Bangladesh 1976 - 1987; Member, Bangladesh National Committee for World Energy Conference, 1983 - 1987; Member, Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science, and Bangladesh Association for the Scientific Professions; Member, Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), USA.
