Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain was born on 19 August, 1944.
Dr. Hossain served as Lecturer, (1978-1983); Assistant Professor (1983-1989), Associate Professor (1989-1993); Professor, 1993-2007, Dept of Mathematics, Dhaka University; also served as Visiting Professor July 2005–March 2011, Dept of Mathematics, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan, as visiting professor, Faculty of Electro-Mehanical Engineering, Xi'dian University, China July-December 2016 and UGC Professor for July 2016-June 2018.
Professor Hossain was specialized in External flow: Heat and mass transfer in natural and mixed convection; combined conduction- radiation-convection problem for flow of Newtonian fluid; thermo-micropolar fluid, and magnetohydrodynamic convective flow; convective flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid through porous media along different geometry; Internal flow: Forced Convection, Natural Convection and Mixed Convection flow of Newtonian/non-Newtonian fluid, Magneto-hydrodynamic flow, Radiative heat Transfer in fluid flow etc. in an enclosure and channel. Until his recent death, Professor Hossain maintained international research collaboration, such as, Dr. D. A. S. Rees, (University of Bath, U. K.), Professor Rama S. R. Gorla (Cleveland University, U. S. A.), Professor L. S. Yao (Arizona State University, Phenix, Arizona, USA.), Professor Akira Nakayama (Shizuoka University, Japan), Dr Mamun Molla (BRAC University, Bangladesh), Dr Manosh C. Paul (University of Glasgow, UK), Dr Suvash Chan dra Saha (James Cook University, Australia), Dr. Shohel Mahmud (University of Guelph, Canada), Professor Saleem Asghar (COMSTECH Institute of Technology, Pakistan), Dr. Muhammad Saleem (Case University, Pakietan), Dr. Sadia Siddika (CIIT, Attack, Pakistan), Dr Nepal C. Roy (Dhaka University), Dr. Liton K. Saha (Dhaka University), Professor A. C. Mandal (Dhaka University), Dr. Md Abdul Alim (BUET, Dhaka), Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Shargoda University, Pakistan). Professor Hossain was awarded Ibrahim Gold Medal (1985-86) by Dhaka University for distinguished research works; Dean’s Award for the year 1999-2001 for distinguished research works by the Faculty of Science, Dhaka University. He was awarded for contributions in physical science for the year 2002 by the Physical Society of Bangladesh and also Physical Sciences award by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2002. He has also been awarded by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences BAS-Prof Innas Ali Gold Medal for the year 2016.
Prof. Hossain has 250 research publications in national and international journals; he has guided 14 M.Sc, M. Phil. and 8 Ph. D research students; developed research collaboration with nine foreign universities in USA, UK , Romania, China, Japan; directed 8 research projects.
Dr. Anwar Hossain was Associate Editor, Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, Poland; Associate Editor, Journal of Theoretical and Applied Physics, India; Guest Editor of Advances in Mechanical Engineering; Associate editor of Application and Applied Mathematics; Associate editor of Open Transport Phenomena, Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering (Sweden). Member, New York Academy of Sciences, New York, USA; Associate Editor, GANIT (Journal of Bangladesh Mathematical Society); Edited Proceedings of International Conference on Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, held in Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh 2000; edited Proceedings of Tenth Mathematics conference, Bangladesh Mathematical Society, 1997; Edited Proceedings of Mini-Workshop on Applied Mathematics, SUST Sylhet, Bangladesh; He was a member, Bangladesh Mathematical Society, Dhaka, Bangladesh; Member, Calcutta Mathematics Sociey, Calcutta, India; Member, New York Academy of Science, USA; President, Bangladesh Mathematical Society, Dhaka, Bangladesh; Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. Honorary Fellow Australian Institute of High Energetic Materials Gladstone, QLD, Australia. Former Senior Associate of ICTP, Italy.
He attended international seminars and workshops in UK, Italy, Germany, USA, Canada and Libya.
Professor Anwar Hossain expired on 27 May 2021.
