Dr. Md. Abdul Alim

Dr. Md. Abdul Alim was born on 20 Oct 1969 in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah, Bangladesh. Father: Md. Abdus Sattar Molla, Mather: Qulsum Ara.

He studied SSC and HSC respectively from S.H. Muslilm High School and Kushtia Govt. College, Kushtia under Jashore Board, in the Year 1984 and 1986 respectively.B.Sc and M.Sc in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics respectively from Department of Mathematics, Dhaka University, Dhaka (Academic year 1989 and 1990; held in 1992 and 1994). M.Phil in the research field of Computational Fluid Dynamics from Department of Mathematics, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka in the year 2000. He completed his Ph.D from School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Loughborough University, Loughborough, Leicestershire, UK with specialization in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Combustion and Heat Transfer in the year 2004.

Upon completion of his PhD, he returned from England and joined his teaching job at BUET and started teaching and research. Dr. Md. Abdul Alim is a Professor, Department of Mathematics, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He was the Head of the Department of Mathematics, BUET during the period 03 October 2015–03 October 2017. As an University teacher he has disseminated many of his subject topics with different approach and in very brilliant way.

His research areas and interests are Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) - numerical methodology and aspects of modelling of laminar and turbulent combustion and reacting flow, fluid flow and heat transfer; Numerical and analytical techniques of solving Applied Mathematical and Engineering problems; Boundary layer flows and Cavity flows, Flow in enclosures and lid driven cavities; Modelling of convection and radiation heat transfer, non-linear partial differential equations, and asymptotic analysis; Numerical solution by Runge kutta shooting method with Nactsheim-Swigert Iteration Technique, Finite difference (FD), finite volume (FV), finite element (FE) methods; Optimization Techniques; Heat transfer characteristics of Nanofluids. Fuzzy Mathematics and its application. Travelling waves and traffic flow problems.

He is Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences.

He has remarkable contribution on nanofluid and nano energy research and one of the pioneers of Nanofluid based flat plate solar collector investigators.  He has developed research methodologies and implemented new ideas in nanofluid and heat energy research field.

At present he has many scientific contributions to the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computational Heat and Mass Transfer (CHT), Combustion and Reacting Flow and Radiation Heat Transfer, CFD of Nanofluid for Heat Transfer Enhancement, Transport in Porous Media, Boundary layer and outer flows. In the present scientific community he is one of the prominent figures and he has reviewed many research reports and proposals from home and abroad. His scientific contribution and eminence as a scientist of repute can be obtained partially from google scholar citation and researchgate scores and other online platforms.

He has supervised 14 (Fourteen) Ph.Ds and 32 (thirty two) M. Phil/MSc students and guided couple of other Ph.D and M. Phil students to help the students and their supervisors and the process is continuing. Most of the time on an average over 20 Postgraduate (Ph.D, M. He has published more than 350 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings of international repute and he is continuing all his activities for the benefit of educational sector and world scientific community.

To give expert opinion and services to the intellectual and scientific community, he has reviewed over 400 articles of many different world leading journals/Conference of international repute. To give expert opinion about new book to be published in Elsevier, evaluated Book writing proposals received by the Elsevier and other publishers.

Prof. Alim reviewed/evaluated research project proposals/ reports, from University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of Bangladesh, different universities, and organizations from other countries, like Ministry of Higher Education QU, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, European Commission’s European Research Council (ERC) etc.

He evaluated many MSc, MPhil and PhD theses as external examiner of different Universities of Bangladesh and other Countries.

He actively works as a member of organizing committee, takes part in other activities like convenor, editor of the conference publications, member of technical subcommittee etc. to organize Mathematics Conferences of Bangladesh Mathematical Society. He was also member of organizing committee of some other International Conferences like Asian Congress of Fluid Mechanics (ACFM), BSME International Conference on Thermal Engineering, served as reviewer and sessions Chair/Co-Chair of these and other Conferences like International Conference on Marine Technology (MARTEC 2010), International Conference on Mechanical Engineering (ICME 2019), 3rd, 4th Young Scientist Congress 2018, 2019, Organized by Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS). He serves as reviewer/Track Chair of IEOM Society’s International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. He is also serving as member of selection boards of different Universities for recruiting Lecturer and Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor.

He is life member of Bangladesh Mathematical Society and member of some other Professional Organizations.  He is also member of Dhaka University Alumni Association, Dhaka University Mathematics Alumni Association (DUMAA), BUET Alumni Association, Loughborough University Alumni Association, UK etc. He worked as Executive Committee member of Bangladesh Mathematical Society, Editorial Board Member and Associate Editor of "GANIT", the Journal of Bangladesh Mathematical Society. Thus he is continuing his professional and social activities for the benefit of educational sector, enhancement of the quality of higher education and world scientific community and the society. He trained and motivated many university teachers and students to do research. Many of them have been influenced very much in doing research and are contributing in higher education and research at home and abroad. Dr. MA Alim is continuing his work to make significant positive contribution to the education sector, the higher education and research of Bangladesh, to the National Development. His work and activities are to contribute to the world scientific community and to serve the Society and Mankind.
