Prof. Dr. Abu Bin Imran

Dr. Abu Bin Imran, a distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He was born in Comilla, Bangladesh, in 1980. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Department of Chemistry, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh, in 2004 and 2006., respectively. 

In 2009, Dr. Imran completed his Doctor of Engineering degree under the supervision of Professor Yukikazu Takeoka in the Department of Molecular Design and Engineering at Nagoya University, Japan. He was awarded MEXT scholarship to continue his Doctor of Engineering degree. Following this, he contributed as a researcher to the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) project at Nagoya University until October 2011 and later served as an Assistant Professor at the same institution. He also worked as VBL fellow at Venture Business Limited, Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan. 

In 2021, Dr. Imran was awarded a prestigious Fulbright fellowship, during which he conducted research in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University, USA. In 2022, he advanced his expertise further as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. Dr. Imran’s scientific contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Material Backcasting Technology (MBT) Center Research Encouragement Award in 2010 and the Bayer Science and Education Foundation Fellowship in 2013. His academic output includes about 50 research publications in high-impact journals such as Nature Communications, Science Advances, Chemical Communications, and Macromolecules. 

Additionally, he has authored 50 book chapters, one edited book titled Innovations in Nanomaterials published by Nova Science Publishers, and over 80 conference proceedings and abstracts. With a citation count of 2300, an h-index of 23, and an i-10 index of 38, Dr. Imran’s research has had a significant impact in his field. He serves as an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Modern Polymer Chemistry and Materials (Hong Kong, China) and as a reviewer for over 70 national and international journals. 

Dr. Imran leads the Soft and Smart Materials Laboratory at BUET, where his innovative research spans smart hydrogels, nanomaterials, plastic upcycling, sensors, bio-composites, photochemistry, stretchable electronics, Sensor, flexible supercapacitor, and supramolecular systems. He is committed to advancing the field of materials science while inspiring and guiding the next generation of researchers toward academic excellence and meaningful societal contributions.
