Dr. Rokshana Parvin is a veterinarian, academician, and Professor in the Department of Pathology at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh, Bangladesh. With over 17 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership, she has established herself as an accomplished scholar in the fields of virology, pathology, and transboundary animal diseases.Dr. Parvin completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Pathology from BAU, where she began her academic career. She pursued her doctoral studies in Virology at the University of Leipzig, Germany, earning her Ph.D. in 2015 as a recipient of the prestigious DAAD fellowship. Building upon her doctoral research, she continued her scientific journey as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza, Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute (FLI), Greifswald, Germany, under the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) fellowship from 2018 to 2020. More recently, she broadened her global academic exposure as a Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar (2022–2023) at the Department of Population Health, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, USA.
Throughout her career, Dr. Parvin has dedicated her research to understanding zoonotic and transboundary animal diseases that pose threats to both animal and human health. She places special emphasis on molecular virology, pathogen characterization, experimental pathology, and host–pathogen interactions. Her expertise lies in bridging molecular diagnosis with pathological investigation, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms and informing effective prevention and control strategies. She has published 75 articles so far in many prestigious journals, including Scientific Reports, Transboundary Emerging Diseases, PLOS Pathogen, Frontiers in Microbiology, Frontiers in Veterinary Sciences, Virology, Archives of Virology, Avian Pathology, Veterinary Pathology, Viruses, Microbial Pathogenesis, Poultry Science, Infection, Genetics and Evolution, and New Microbes and New Infections etc.
In addition to research, Dr. Parvin is passionate about veterinary education and professional development. She has been actively involved in pedagogy training and the development of training modules for veterinarians in Bangladesh, enhancing capacity-building in animal health. Her role as a mentor extends to supervising graduate research, guiding young scientists in the fields of pathology and virology, and encouraging interdisciplinary approaches to solving emerging diseases challenges. Dr. Parvin is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the World Poultry Science Association, World Veterinary Poultry Association, European Society of Virology, Bangladesh Society for Veterinary Education and Research, and Bangladesh Society for Safe Food. Her professional affiliations demonstrate her strong commitment to advancing veterinary science at both national and international levels.
Over the years, her outstanding contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and Equipment Grant, Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award, International Young Scientist Award, Houghton Trust travel grant award and multiple national honors such as the BAU Teachers’ Association Best Publication Award, Global Research Impact Award, and the University Gold Medal from BAU. With her strong academic foundation, international research experience, and dedication to advancing veterinary science, Dr. Rokshana Parvin continues to play a pivotal role in addressing current and emerging challenges in animal health.
