(Hons.) and M.S. degrees in Soil, Water, and Environment from the University of Dhaka, followed by a Ph.D.(Chemistry) from the Korea Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, Sogang University, Seoul, South Korea, under the supervision of Professor Kyung Byung Yoon. His doctoral dissertation, titled “Order Uniformly Crystalline Mesoporous TiO₂ Polymorphs and Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas (PMOs): Novel Synthesis, Characterization, and Photocatalytic Activity,” focused on advanced materials for photocatalysis.
Currently serving as a Principal Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Dr. Hossain’s research addresses pressing environmental challenges, including water splitting, pollution chemistry, climate change, Marine Pollution, wastewater treatment, and Ecotoxicology. He has developed an arsenic and iron detection kit and is actively engaged in arsenic remediation technologies. His scientific contributions include over 70 peer-reviewed publications, four international patents, and four industrial processes.
Dr. Hossain has professional expertise in operating and maintaining advanced analytical instruments (AAS, BET, XRD, UV-VIS, NIR, AQMS, FESEM, WD-XRF, PL, HR-TEM) and has completed training in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for laboratory accreditation. He has also worked as a visiting scientist at CSIRO, Australia, collaborating with Professor Miao Chen (RMIT University).
In recognition of his academic and professional standing, Dr. Hossain is a reviewer for journals including Environmental Pollution, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Nature Scientific Reports, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, and Environmental Geochemistry and Health and so on. He is an Associate Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) and a professional member of several organizations, including the American Chemical Society (3224699), Bangladesh Crystallographic Association, Dhaka university registered graduate (LM-2017033595), EDAPHOS, LM-313, INGSA, and BCSIR Scientist Association, and Dhaka University Alumni Association (LM-15578). He also serves on the Air Pollution Control Independent Monitoring Group (IMG) for the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transport Authority (DMRTA) and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport extension projects. Additionally, He has completed six special grant projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Bangladesh.
