Prof. Dr. Syed Mithun Ali

Dr. Syed Mithun Ali is a professor and former chairman in the Department of Industrial and
Production Engineering in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He
holds a Ph.D. majoring in supply chain management from the Nagoya Institute of Technology,
Japan. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed Scopus indexed journal articles. He has a Google
Scholar Citations of over 12,000 with an h-index of 61 and an i10-index of 147 as of September
28, 2026. Dr. Ali has received several recognitions and awards throughout his academic and
research career. He has been listed among the Top 2% of Scientists in global author databases of
standardized citation indicators since 2022, reflecting the strong impact and visibility of his
research contributions. His honors include the Forum 86 Research Excellence Award (2020) and
the Outstanding Researcher Award (2023) conferred by the IEOM Society International,
recognizing his sustained excellence, research quality, and contributions to the international
research community. His research appears in several top tier journals including the Journal of
Cleaner Production, Annals of Operations Research, International Journal of Production
Economics, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, International Journal of Production
Research, Sustainable Production and Consumption, Industrial Management and Data Systems,
Computers and Industrial Engineering, Business Strategy and Development, Business Strategy
and the Environment and so on. His current research interest includes applied artificial intelligence
and machine learning, logistics and supply chain management and supply chain risk management
and tying that to supply chain sustainability.
