(Expatriate Fellow, )
Dr. A.N. Kamal, was a Professor of Theoretical Physics, University of Alberta, Canada for more than 30 years, and was one of the most distinguished Particle Physicists of Canada.
He took his B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Dhaka and was a research student working for his M.Sc. degree under Professor M. Innas Ali. He did a beautiful piece of work at that time which was published in the journal ‘Nuclear Physics’. He then took his Ph.D. degree from the University of Liverpool working on Dispersion Relations in which he became an expert.
After taking his Ph.D. degree, he came to the University of Dhaka and served his department for a couple of years. Eventually he emigrated to Cananda where he found the proper environment for work on Theoretical Physics.
Although Dr. Kamal started his research career with Nuclear Physics, he soon switched over to Particle Physics in which he became a recognized world authority on the production cross- sections and decay schemes of the newly discovered unstable particles. He spent years as Visiting Professor in AERE, Harwell; University of Paris; UCLA and elsewhere. He served as a rapporteur in various International Conferences which was a unique recognition for his admirable contributions in the field of particle physics. Dr. Kamal was famous as a creative writer.
Professor Kamal expired on 22 April 2019.
