Dr. Mustafizur Rahman

Dr. Mustafizur Rahman was born on 15 January 1949, Comilla, Bangladesh.

He completed Bachelors’ degree from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Masters’ and Doctoral from Tokyo Institute of Technology.

He is Professor, National University of Singapore

He received IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award, 2003; The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, LEM21 Leading Edge Manufacturing Achievements Award, 2005; Machine Tools Research Foundation Award, 2007, 2009; William Jonson Gold Medal for Life-Time Achievement in Advancement of Material and Processing Technology, 2009; A M Strickland Prize, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK, 2009.

He has established many  innovative technologies for advanced manufacturing especially in the areas of micro/nano manufacturing and some of the important ones are: (i) hybrid/compound machining processes, (ii) a first of its kind machine to carry out compound machining which has made paradigm shift in the domain of micro and nano machining, (iii) simultaneous EDM and ECM process and (iv) “extrusion-like mechanism” for nano machining for directly producing mirror finish metal surfaces.  He has three patents and two of them are already commercialized. 

He has published 540 papers.

He visited Japan, UK, France, Germany, Italy, USA, Canada, India, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Switzerland, Poland, South Africa, Australia, Thailand, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Austria.
