Dr. Hiranmay Sen Gupta (Deceased)

Son of Late Jitendra Nath Sen Gupta and Late Suruchi Bala Sen Gupta, Professor Hiranmay Sen was born on 01 August 1934, Barisal, Bangladesh.

He did M.Sc. in Physics from University of Dhaka and Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from University of London, England. His Ph.D. Thesis was supervised by Professor J. Rotblat, Nobel Laureate.

Dr. Sen Gupta was Professor of Physcis (Retd.), University of Dhaka. He was a Post-Doc. Research Fellow (1975-76) of the University of Oxford, England; a Post. Doc. Research Fellow (1981-82) of the University of Brimingham, England; and was a Senior Associtate, Abdus Salam International Centre for theretical Physics (1982-1992), Trieste, Italy. He was a Visiting Profesor (November 1994) at the KyushuUniversity, Fukuoka, Japan.

He was awarded with A. Rob Chowdhury, H.P. Roy and Ibrahim Gold medals from the University of Dhaka and Sonali Bank Gold medal awarded through the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences.

He supervised 150 research students of the University of Dhaka for M.Sc., M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees. He published about 180 research papers, mostly in International Journals (Nucl. Phys., Phys. Rev., Ann. Phys., J. Phys, Zeits. f. Phys., Europ. Phys. J., Phys. Letts., Phys. Rev. Letts., Austr. J. Phys., Nuovo Cim., Prog. Theo. Phys., J. Phys. Soc. Japan, Nucl. Instr. & Methods etc.). Some of these are quoted widely. He had Research collaborations with various Universities home and abroad, author of a book in Bangla on Nuclear Physics covering M. Sc. and M. Phil. syllabus (published by the University of Dhaka, Dhaka).

Professor Sen Gupta visited many countires of the world including England, Italy, Japan, India, and Pakistan.
