Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rashid was born on January 01, 1960 in Shahar Bati, Gangni, Meherpur.

He earned B. Pharm. (Hons.) from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1981; M. Pharm. from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1982 and Ph.D. from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K. in 1992.

He was Lecturer from January 11, 1987 to March 11, 1992; Assistant Professor from March 12, 1992 to March 4, 1996; Associate Professor from March 5, 1996 to March 6, 2002; and Professor from March 7, 2002. He was the Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka (December 21, 2003 to October 12, 2010); Dean (acting), Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka (November 25, 2010 to March 12, 2011); Acting Provost, Fazlul Huq Hall, University of Dhaka (August 22, 2003 to September 15, 2003); Chairman, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka (April 24, 2009 to April 23, 2012). Also served as Scientist II, SAIC-Frederick, NCI-Frederick, Frederick, MD 21702 from May 5, 2000 to November 29, 2001; Visiting Scientist, SAIC-Frederick, NCI-Frederick, Frederick, MD 21702 from December 9, 1997 to May 5, 2000;   Post-doctoral fellow from April 1993 to March 1995 at the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Prof. Rashid published 480 papers in national and international journals. In addition, he is the co-author of 10 books including a reference book entitled “Fundamentals of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practices” (ISBN: 978-984-33-5795-3).

This name was listed as one of the most contributing authors of  scientific papers in “100 Years of Publications of University of Dhaka in Scopus Database” [https://scientificbangladesh.com/ 100-years-publications-of-university-of-dhaka-in-scopus-database/] (Accessed on February 15, 2021); Recipient of Federation of Asian of Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA) 2020 Ishidate Award in Pharmaceutical Research; received SFE-T. Sen Oration Award-2018 from the Society for Society for Ethnopharmacology, India; Admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) on April 24, 2015; Best plenary lecture entitled “Phyto-pharmacological studies of some medicinal plants of Bangladesh with special emphasis to anti-diabetic drug discovery" in the International Conference on Diabetes mellitus and Cancer (DIA-CAN'2012) held in Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India during December 14-18, 2012; Ibrahim Memorial Gold Medal at the 46th Convocation of the University of Dhaka for the year 2003-2004 for outstanding contribution in scientific research; Abdur Rob Chowdhury Memorial Gold Medal, University of Dhaka for the year 2005-2006; BAS-Dr. M.O. Ghani Memorial Gold Medal for the year 2005 in recognition of significant contribution in the field of Natural Product Research; Listed as one of the most productive leading scientists of the OIC member states in 2007-2008; Young investigator’s prize for 1996 by the World Academy of Sciences/Bangladesh Academy of Sciences for contribution to Natural Products Chemistry; Constant Outstanding Performance Awards (COPA) by the SAIC Frederick, NCI-FCRDC, USA for 1998 and 1999; Stelleta award for commitment and perseverance during post-doctoral research at the Laboratory of Drug Discovery Research and Development (LDDRD) in 1995, NCI, NIH, USA; Chancellor’s award given by the President of Bangladesh for securing the first class first position in B. Pharm. (Hons.) examination; Muhit Khan’s award for outstanding result in the B. Pharm. (Hons.) examination; Awarded books by the University of Dhaka for securing the first position in first class in M. Pharm. (Thesis group) examination; Fogarty post-doctoral fellowship by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to work in the NCI’s anti-cancer and anti-HIV drug discovery programs; Commonwealth Scholarship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK.

As per the Google Scholars (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=NRd-17cAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao), so far he has more than 6200 citations and his h-index is 38, i10-index is 175 and RG score of 42.74.

Dr. Rashid received several research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology & Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; University of Dhaka, and University Grants Commission (UGC) and HEQEP.

He served as the Coordinator for Bangladesh in organizing the “International Workshop on Development of Novel Antibiotics to Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)” at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS), University of Dhaka, Bangladesh during March 24-25, 2019; Organizing Secretary of 1st National Symposium on Herbal Medicine: New Approaches to Validation and Quality Control organized by Natural Products Society of Bangladesh (BNPS) held in State University of Bangladesh, Dhaka, Bangladesh on 3rd March 2018; President of the Organizing Committee of 18th International Congress of International Society for Ethnopharmacology & 5th International Congress of Society for Ethnopharmacology, India: “Ethnopharmacology and Drug Development: Innovation meets Tradition” held in Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka during 13-15th January 2018.

He has participated in more than 60 national and international seminars and conferences and delivered plenary and invited lectures. He also chaired sessions in many international and national seminars and conferences.

Prof. Rashid was Editorial Advisory Board Member of Journal of Natural Products, ACS Publications, USA; Executive Editor of Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Journal; Associate Editor of The Dhaka University Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Members of Editorial Board: African Journal of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Advances in Traditional Medicine and Journal of Herbal Medicine (UK).

Professor Rashid is the elected Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy since 2011. Also he is member of different societies: Phytochemical Society of Europe (PSE), Phytochemical Society of Asia (PSA), International Society of Ethno-pharmacology (ISE), Society for Ethno-pharmacology India (SFEC), Dhaka University Teachers’ Association, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society and Bangladesh Botanical Society.

He visited USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman, India, Nepal, Botswana, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.
